Bees are in trouble.

They need our help.

Our Notts MP for Sherwood, Mark Spencer, has made the controversial decision to permit the use of bee-killing pesticides, with no debate or vote in parliament.

For the third year in a row, the Government has authorised a banned neonicotinoid pesticide for use on sugar beet grown in the UK.

This decision goes against the advice of their own experts, who recommended that the authorisation should not go ahead. It also comes barely a month after the UK made a commitment to halve the environmental impacts of damaging pesticides by 2030, and just days after the EU’s highest court ruled that EU countries will no longer be allowed temporary exemptions for banned neonicotinoid pesticides like this one.

The consequences of this decision could be disastrous.

These chemicals are responsible for sub-lethal effects, such as impairing bee learning and memory—which affects a bee colony’s ability to forage for food. Worse still, the pesticides also get into the pollen and nectar, which the bees then carry back and expose to the whole hive.

Birds that consume small doses have also been found to lose weight and suffer delays in their migration.

It’s time to take action - BeeSafe and say no to Neonics

The MP who has permitted the use of the bee-killing pesticides (behind closed doors, with no debate or vote in parliament) is Notts MP for Sherwood Mark Spencer.
With British Sugar Factory on our doorstep, this decision has huge local relevance.

We need to make our voices heard and protect our local environment from these hazardous chemicals. If we all come together, we can ensure that our local environment is protected against the threat of bee-killing pesticides
